NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 17-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife during a fight at a high school in Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Two girls got into an argument shortly before 12:30 p.m. inside of the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice in Williamsburg, according to sources.

During the fight, one girl stabbed the other in the arm and leg with the knife, the sources said.

The injured teen was transported to NYU Langone Health—Cobble Hill. She was expected to survive.

It wasn't immediately clear if the alleged stabber was charged.

Isla Gething, the associated press secretary for the NYC Department of Education, said in a statement that "this senseless act of violence is deeply troubling and will not be tolerated."

"School staff and Safety Agents immediately responded, following all safety protocols," Gething said. "We are conducting a full investigation, taking all necessary action, and providing appropriate support to the community."
