NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A New Jersey prosecutor’s office detective was shot and killed during a home invasion at her residence on Tuesday, according to the Bridgeton Police Department.

Police responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. reporting individuals kicking in the front door of a home in Bridgeton, authorities said.

Upon arrival, officers found Monica Mosley, 51, a sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, who had been shot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

During a canvas of hospitals, New Jersey State Police troopers went to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where a suspect was detained for questioning after being treated for a gunshot wound.

The suspect has not been publicly identified, and no arrests or charges have been made at this time, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not indicated whether Mosley was specifically targeted due to her work.

Mosley started her career at the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office in 2006 as a paralegal specialist. She was promoted in 2009 to County Detective, serving with “honor, dignity, and respect” until her tragic death, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. Over the years, she worked in multiple departments, including Trial Teams, the Special Victims Unit, the Community Justice Unit, and the Professional Standards Unit (Internal Affairs), where she held the position of Unit Supervisor.

“Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model for all those with whom she served and led in the law enforcement community throughout Cumberland County and beyond,” Webb-McRae said in a statement. “She will be missed more than words can detail, but she will never be forgotten by her CCPO family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Mosley’s family at this most difficult time.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at (609-465-1135) or CMCPO.TIPS, or the Bridgeton Police Department via BPD.TIPS, accessible from any computer, tablet, or smartphone.
