Steve Yzerman is back with the Red Wings. So are Kris Draper, Pat Verbeek and Jiri Fischer, four members of the team's last dynasty.

Could they make it five?

It's been rumored that Yzerman could add Sergei Fedorov to his staff, and Fedorov is open to the idea.
“I don’t want to start any rumors or anything, or put any kind of pressure. But humanly, if we put aside everything else, why not? I would love to," Fedorov told the Detroit News. ... “I can only say – and not (even) from professional point of view – I would just like to help.

"If I can help our organization to get better in any way … I’d be glad to do it. In any capacity.”

Fedorov has experience in the business. He served as general manager for CSKA Moscow in the KHL from 2012-18, helping the team win the league championship last season. He's now an assistant to the team's board of directors.

Fedorov and the Red Wings had a complicated breakup, of course. He went through two contract holdouts during his time in Detroit, which rubbed ownership the wrong way, and ultimately left in 2003 to sign with the Ducks.

It's the main reason the organization has yet to retire his number 91. But Fedorov has moved on from that, holding no ill will toward the team he spent 13 seasons with.

He said it would be “an honor, no doubt,” to see his jersey hang from the rafters, and a chance “to thank a lot of people, especially from the beginning of my career in Detroit. But I’m really at peace, one way or the other."

Fedorov said he's happy to see Yzerman back with the Red Wings after he spent nine years as GM of the Lightning.

“He’s back where he belongs," he said. "Everybody knows that.”

Maybe in the future, Fedorov will be back here with him.
