The Padres won a critical game on Friday night, using an 8th inning rally to beat the Diamondbacks 4-0. Arizona rookie Brandon Pfaadt carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning before Juan Soto broke it up with a double. This was a classic pitcher's duel, with Pfaadt tossing 7 shutout innings and allowing just that 1 hit, while Seth Lugo struck out 9 over 6 scoreless frames. The Padres rallied in the bottom of the 8th, with Ben Gamel laying down a terrific pinch-hit bunt that not only advanced Jose Azocar to 2nd base, but turned into a single as Gamel beat the throw to 1st. After Trent Grisham laid down another bunt to advance both runners to 2nd and 3rd, Ha-Seong Kim drove in both runners on a 2-strike single up the middle to drive in the first runs of the game by either team. Fernando Tatis Jr. followed Kim's hit with a 2-run blast to center field to give the Padres a 4-0 lead. Josh Hader slammed the door in the 9th, and the Padres secured a much needed win heading into Saturday's doubleheader.
