For years, lawmakers in Dallas have been fighting for a space in the city akin to Central Park in New York.

Well that vision has just broken ground.

The city began just broke ground on the $325 million Harold Simmons Park, which will be located alongside the Trinity River.

Tony Moore, head of the Trinity Park Conservancy, told the Dallas Morning News, “We couldn’t just passively have just a shovel in the ground and shovel out.

“We needed a tangible vote of confidence to show Dallas that we’re serious about this. We’re committed to this, and this park is happening.”

The earliest piece of the project, the West Overlook park, will include event lawn, skate park, water features and a cafe.  When the project is finally completed, it will be comprised of “a compilation of parks that overlook a nature preserve in the heart of the floodway.”
