As the beginning of the school year approaches in fall, many parents have decided to continue homeschooling their children.
A common assumption is that parents are worried about their children being exposed to COVID-19 at school, however, post-shelter in place, families have found that homeschooling just works better for them.
Last year, the rate of households homeschooling their children doubled between March and September.
"That’s one of the silver linings of the pandemic – I don’t think we would have chosen to homeschool otherwise," said Vermont mother Danielle King. Her 7-year-old daughter thrived with the flexible, one-on-one instruction where she was able to explore deeper curriculum.
"I didn’t want my kids to become a statistic and not meet their full potential," another parent said, adding that he wanted his children to have a "very solid understanding of their faith."
For many, this education style is the now norm with no plans of turning back.
