UPDATE: The owners of Kellie’s Creekside have reached out to KDKA Radio to refute the inspection report.

Kellie tells KDKA Radio that some of the violations recorded are from items not even used in daily restaurant operations.

the popcorn machine that was cited was brought upstairs after being in a basement for years, with a friend asking if they could borrow it for a party.

She says there was no roach inside the machine and there was a fly in it, because it was stored in the basement.

The facility does not serve popcorn and was being cleaned to be lent out to a friend.

She also says the slush machine is only used in the summer and is professionally serviced before it is used again.

As for the issues with the doors, Kellie says the purchased “an entire storefront new glass windows new door.”

She showed the inspector the receipt and that the new door will be installed soon.

She also says the report that a bottle of Windex was stored with food is an “exaggeration”. The bottle was on a rack that doesn’t contain food.

As for the food debris found on the mounted fry cutter, it was actively being used at the time of the inspection.

Several people have reached out to KDKA Radio expressing their confidence in Kellie’s restaurant and rave about the food.

“I am here daily interacting with customers making sure service is good and quality of food is what I would expect if I were out to eat,” said Kellie.

Since taking over the establishment right before the pandemic, Kellie says she has never had a negative report and all of the "violations" are easily explained.

Original story published Monday:

A Pittsburgh-area bar and restaurant was hit with 10 violations during a recent inspection by state health officials.

The Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety has ruled Kellie’s Creekside Bar & Grill “out of compliance” after an inspection on Friday.

Some of the violations include food debris observed in areas like the mounted fry cutter, table mounted can opener and deli slicer.

“Black and pink organic matter” was found around an ice machine at the bar with “visible debris inside of the dispenser spigots of the slushie machine.”

A dead roach and dead wasp were found inside a popcorn machine.

Several items were found without date marks.

Several cleaning items were found stored above or on the same shelf with food or equipment.

The front door of the restaurant was found in disrepair with a gap between door and a gap on the bottom of the back door.

The facility also lost its certified food safety employee over three months ago and continues to operate without one.

Some of the violations need to be corrected by May 11, others by June 1.
