After losing eight games in a row, the Blues have now won three straight — two of those games being thrillers against some of the best teams in the league. Lou Korac, Blues writer at NHL.com and SI.com, joined Sports Open Line to discuss the hot streak the Blues are now on.
Korac said one of the moments from Monday’s game — when the Blues were able to snag that last goal against the Avalanche — is something the team will look back on at the end of the season as something that turned the team around.
“Once all that transpired, I just kept thinking to myself they need to somehow get this to overtime because I didn't think there was a I didn't think there was a snowball's chance that they would get through that without allowing a goal,” Korac said. “You just wondered how they were going to get through that. And somehow, some way they were able to manage through it.”
Korac also said that during the Blues’ losing streak, having a leader like Craig Berube, who was able to tell them to just keep working, was key.
“These players here understand that this is a very accepting and a very understanding fan base. And it's one thing to get beat, but it’s another thing to not put forth an effort,” he said. “And I think the fans were understanding that they were feeling that and they were letting the team know it. And I think it all just boiled down to staying with the process and just putting forth an effort and continuing to work. And I think that's what you're seeing here.”
Korac said he thinks the team is back in a good mindset and focused on what's ahead of them
"That eight-gamer that was quite a large hiccup by the Blues standards. It's in the rearview mirror now, but you know, I think this team is just got that mentality right now of just continue to build, just worry about the next game," he said. "Don't worry about trying to match an eight game winning streak, or a five game winning streak, or a ten game or whatever it is, they've kind of got that attitude right now just win the next game. And I think that's really helped them out here."
