St. Louis Public Schools have announced that students at Collegiate School of Medicine and Bioscience will return to classes virtually next week, then in-person.
CSMB is on the same campus as Central Visual and Performing Arts, where the shooting took place last week.
SLPS has not yet determined a plan for CVPA students to return to classes.
Superintendent Dr. Kelvin Adams said that CSMB’s building has less damage than CVPA, and that he hopes to have CSMB students back in the building by Nov. 14.
“However, that timeline depends on how long it takes to complete the necessary repairs,” he said in a press release. “That could push us to the week following Thanksgiving break, but the overarching goal is to have students in the classrooms as soon as we can.”
He added that it isn’t a decision the district took lightly, and that students and parents were surveyed and “most are ready to be back in class.”
The current plan is for Monday, Nov. 7 to be a day of preparation for virtual learning, and if everything goes well, classes will begin on Wednesday (the district has Tuesday off for Election Day).
They add that virtual classes are available for the rest of the semester for any students who don’t feel comfortable returning to the building.
As for CVPA, Adams said “We are allowing CVPA students time and
space for healing this week. We will continue to proceed slowly and let them
guide us on the right time to return.”
