ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Long time newspaper man, founder of the Riverfront Times, and co-founder of Donnybrock is throwing his hat into the political ring.

Ray Hartmann will file Friday as a Democrat to challenge Congresswoman Ann Wagner in the Second Congressional District.

When asked if he ever thought he would run for office Hartmann says "I thought it about it overtime and really always assumed I wouldn't and I really believe, and you know we say this every four years, this is the most important election of our lives, I actually think this one is."

Hartman believes he has a shot at winning the primary and says it's not just one issue driving him, there are several, including Westlake Landfill and the nuclear contamination.

After 37 years, Hartmann announced his retired on Donnybrook Thursday. KMOX has reached out to Congresswoman Wagner for a comment, we are waiting to hear back.
