The question of who will replace former St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar could have an answer by the end of the month.

Lohmar’s resignation at the end of March seemed sudden, though insiders said it was something the official had been planning for. He resigned months after being arrested for driving while intoxicated near the Lake of the Ozarks.

Since his resignation, a dozen candidates have applied for the job, some who already work in his office, and some outsiders. They’re all Republicans who live in the county.

County Executive Steve Ehlmann says the interviews focused on how each candidate would keep the crime rate low. Whoever gets the job would have to run for a two-year term in August of 2024, and then there’s an election for another four-year term that would come in 2026.

When Lohmar resigned, he said that he and his family "came to the conclusion several months ago that it was time for me to consider other professional opportunities as I realized I could no longer give this job the energy and attention it requires."
