About two dozen people protested in front of the El Salvador Consulate in Koreatown on Wednesday, calling for the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
The Maryland resident, who has a valid green card and no criminal record, was mistakenly deported to a notorious El Salvador prison last month. The Trump administration has defied a Supreme Court ruling ordering his return.
“We are all afforded due process, and none of the people that he sent to El Salvador got that due process. That is not right,” one of the protesters told KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “If we don't stand up for that, we'll lose our democracy.”
“I think SCOTUS has spoken and he should be brought back, and I don't understand why our administration is disregarding what SCOTUS has said,” another protester, Laura Richardson, said.

California Rep. Robert Garcia, who has called the situation a “constitutional crisis,” sent a joint letter to the House Oversight Committee Chair on Tuesday asking for a congressional delegation to El Salvador to investigate Abrego Garcia’s case.
