It was announced earlier in the week with a very trendy Tik Tok featuring Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot that all CPS seniors will be celebrated with a virtual graduation and Oprah Winfrey will be the commencement speaker.

The ceremony is set for mid-June and will celebrate every high school senior in the city. It will feature speeches, performances, and celebrations of students’ achievements. More specific details to come later, but all residents are encouraged to watch the ceremony and cheer on the Class of 2020.

Another graduation ceremony featuring a different Chicago native delivering the commencement speech, former President Barack Obama, will be televised on ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC simultaneously on May 16th at 8 p.m. The hour-long event will celebrate the high school Class of 2020 and feature LeBron James, Malala Yousafzai, and Ben Platt.

The event is titled “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020” and will also feature many CPS students as well as performances from the Jonas Brothers, H.E.R., Bad Bunny, Pharrel Williams, and others!
