CTA unveils eye-catching artwork for 4 Red Line stops set to reopen in 2025

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — When four Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Red and Purple Line stations reopen on the North Side — something expected to happen in late 2025 after the $2.1 billion modernization project — their walls be adorned with eye-grabbing, colorful artwork.

CTA officials said it commissioned the works from five award-winning artists in an effort to expand the CTA’s “growing artwork collection that enhances the overall transit experience.”

The art at each station is intended to reflect the local neighborhoods around each stop.

Red and Purple Line stops along Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryan Mawr station houses will all have new artwork. Bryn Mawr’s Hollywood auxiliary entrance will also have new art.

The artists are: Tom Torluemke, of Indiana; Mayumi Lake, of Chicago; David Lozano, of Chicago; William Conger, of Chicago; and Alive Hargrave, of Chicago.
