CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After more than two decades, Chicago’s Pritzker Military Museum and Library will be closing this summer.

Its last day will be July 27, after which it will move from its location at Monroe Street and Michigan Avenue to one in Somers, Wis., according to a statement from the museum's interim president.

The museum currently houses roughly 40,000 military artifacts and more than 65,000 books, all of which will be merged with the 51,600-square-foot Pritzker Military Archives Center in Somers.

Officials said the archives center will be “the focal point sustaining and furthering the mission.”

The Pritzker Military Museum and Library’s exhibit “War of 1812: Countering Peril on the High Seas and at Home” will run for the remainder of the museum’s stay in Chicago.
