BABYLON, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A Nassau County police officer is accused of driving drunk and slamming into a parked SUV early Sunday morning.
No one was injured in the crash, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. on busy Route 109 in West Babylon.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the back of the SUV was a mangled mess. Glass, metal and other debris littered the roadway a day after the wreck.
The officer, identified as 27-year-old Andrew Smith, was released Sunday morning with an appearance ticket.
The Nassau County Police Department said Smith has been suspended without pay pending an internal investigation.
