DETROIT (WWJ) -- How do you get somebody to by an electric vehicle? Give them a free home charging station.

At least that's what Ford Motor Co. is hoping for, as the automaker offers retail customers a free home charging station with the purchase of a new Ford EV.

WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert says being called the "Ford Power Promise" covers the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, or E-Transit.

This is limited-time deal, good for only the next three months.

"The idea, says Ford CEO Jim Farley, is to take away one of the big concerns for people considering EV," Gilbert reported, "and show them some of an electric vehicle's advantages: things like being able to precondition your vehicle in the garage, or, in some cases, us the EV to power a home in a blackout."

Farley said you can take the complimentary charger home, or have it delivered and installed by Ford.

The deal also includes roadside service if your battery runs out.

The Ford Power Promise program begins on October 1, 2024, and runs through January 2, 2025.

There, of course, are some limitations with this deal, and people who don't need a home charging station can opt instead for a $2,000 rebate.
