STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) — An investigation is underway after a shooting in Sterling Heights Tuesday evening sent a man to the hospital.

It all unfolded around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 on Sugar Maple Drive, in the area of M-59 and Ryan Rd., according to Sterling Heights Police Cpt. Mario Bastianelli.

While it was not immediately clear what led to the shooting, Bastianelli said after being shot the victim drove himself to a gas station at 19 Mile and Mound roads, where he sought help.

Police received multiple 911 calls from both locations, Bastianelli said.

Bastianelli said there is no believed to be any threat to the public at this time, as Bastianelli said the suspect and victim likely knew each other.

"It's under investigation; we're still trying to put together the pieces," Bastianelli told WWJ Newsradio 950 Tuesday night. "Obviously, a shooting occurred and we're still trying to put this together, but we don't believe this was a random incident."

Bastianelli said the victim was last reported to be in stable condition.

There is no one in custody, and authorities have not released any information about a possible suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sterling Heights Police at 586-446-2801.
