SPRINGFIELD TWP/HOLLY TWP (WWJ) -- Starting Monday, crews will close off several bridges over I-75 in northern Oakland County, marking the start of a four-year repaving project.

Gretchen Whitmer announced today that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin work next week on 15 miles of road resurfacing and 11 bridge repair projects on I-75 from M-15 in Oakland County to the Genesee County line.

MDOT is investing approximately $160 million in the repair work, which is expected to support nearly 2,000 construction jobs. Funding for the project was made possible by Governor Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program.

At 7 a.m. Monday, May 22, crews will close Belford Rd, Davisburg Rd and Holcomb Rd over I-75 for bridge repairs through late July. I-75 will remain open during that time, though occasional lane closures are to be expected.

The following Tuesday, May 30, temporary crossovers will be built in preparation for the continued bridge work and repaving.

MDOT says that two lanes of traffic should be open both ways on I-75 during construction unless additional closures are absolutely necessary.

Complete resurfacing of northbound I-75 is set for 2024, while the southbound lanes will be redone in 2025. Remaining miscellaneous repairs and removal of the temporary crossovers are scheduled for 2026.

Additional work will include drainage improvements, culvert replacements and new signs and guardrails.

According to Governor Whitmer's office, Michigan will have fixed nearly 20,000 miles of state-owned roads and 1,400 bridges by the end of this year's construction season.
