There's a Chinese proverb about the journey of a thousand miles beginning with a single step. That first step could be today for members of the 2024 New Orleans Saints rookie class, as they report to training camp.
Saints fans who watched Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore's rookie seasons know how important it is to have good young players. WWL Pro Football Analyst Mike Detillier says there's one Saints rookie in particular that needs to come up big.
"You're counting on Taliese Fuaga to come in to be your starting left tackle," said Detillier.
Another early-round draft pick Detillier says is expected to show talent: "Kool-Aid McKinstry because of the fact Kool-Aid missed a lot of that time on the field with the foot injury and surgery."
And while those two are going to be important, Detillier says "the guy that's going to get the most interest: Spencer Rattler, at quarterback."
Rattler and fellow back-bencher Jake Haener will get a lot of work as the Saints coaching staff looks to see who they want to be the backup to Derek Carr, and maybe even his eventual replacement.
"These games and practices matter, because it matters to Haener, it matters to Spencer Rattler," said Detillier.
