It may be mid-November, but don't tell Mother Nature.

After the first ever Category 3 November hurricane in the Gulf last week, the tropics are still going strong.

The National Hurricane Center says a broad area of low pressure over the central Caribbean Sea is in an area with environmental conditions conducive for development.

"A tropical depression is likely to form within the next couple of days," according to an advisory. "Further development is likely."

An Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft is investigating the system.

Formation chance is listed at 90 percent.

Now the good news for Louisiana.

WWL TV Meteorologist Payton Malone says this should not be a problem for the New Orleans area.

"A strong cold front will steer a potential hurricane toward Florida next week," he explained. “Models do show the potential for a hurricane and perhaps even a major storm, but if a storm moves into the Gulf it would then start to turn northeast toward Florida."

Malone says it's still too early on to say for sure how this play out, but feels Florida needs to watch this very closely.

The next name is Sara.
