The National Weather Service has posted a flood advisory for the New Orleans area, with periods of heavy rain possible through Tuesday.
"Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area," the National Weather service said. "Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area."
The city of New Orleans announced Monday that drivers can park their vehicles on neutral grounds to avoid street flooding.
Additionally, the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans advises that it has the ability to generate 40.5 megawatts to power. If the city's pumps reach peak power demand, that will not be enough to operate all pumps simultaneously.
